Hefty rebates are available from the Illinois Propane Education & Research Council and the Illinois Propane Gas Association that help with the safe installation of new energy-efficient propane appliances. When it comes to efficiency, propane appliances are a far more cost-effective choice than electric. A tankless propane water heater can save up to 50% compared to an electric model. Start saving more on your energy bill and receive a hefty rebate with the safe installation of the following appliances:

We are “on a roll” when it comes to raising awareness, and raising funds for the
American Cancer Society Relay For Life, a life-changing experience that gives
people in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people
who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the
disease. Each year, more than four million people in over 20 countries take part in
this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives
Burkardt’s L.P. Gas decided to paint its new 3,200-gallon propane delivery truck pink
to focus on all types of cancer.
The idea to support this worthy cause came while attending a high school football
game in Polo, IL., where cancer survivors were recognized and honored. “That’s
when we realized just how many people are affected by some type of cancer. We
felt compelled to do what we could to help and are pleased with the awareness
that the pink truck has raised for the cause since it rolled out last fall.” said Mike
Faivre, general manager. One penny for each gallon of propane delivered is
donated to Relay For Life. In the last year, the campaign has raised more than
$8,100 for cancer research.
Because propane is an odorless, colorless gas, ethyl mercaptan is added. This gives propane its strong, unpleasant smell of rotten eggs, a skunk’s spray, or a dead animal. Propane manufacturers add this smell deliberately to help alert customers in the event of a propane leak, which can create a safety hazard.
TAKE THE SNIFF TEST.
Make sure everyone in your home or building knows what propane smells like. If you do not know what propane smells like, please let us know. Our delivery driver will be happy to provide you with a demonstration so that you and your family are familiar with propane’s distinct odor.
CAN YOU SMELL IT?
It may be hard for some people to smell propane for several reasons: They have a cold, allergies, sinus congestion, or other medical condition. Their sense of smell is reduced due to tobacco use, alcohol, or drugs. Smoke, cooking, and other strong odors can mask the smell of propane. As people age, their sense of smell can become less sensitive. If the smell of propane is present in the air over a period of time, “odor fatigue” can occur. The propane smell may not be strong enough to wake up someone who is sleeping. The propane smell may be in a location (basement or attic) where it is not detected by people in other areas of the building.
Your safety is our number one priority! We recommend installing a Kidde Nighthawk combustible gas/CO Detector in your home. These are available at home improvement stores. Please call our office if you do not know the smell of propane!

Propane is a far more efficient choice to run appliances than electric, and also a more environmentally-friendly option. Rebates are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so take advantage of the savings while funds are still available. Rebates are limited to $500 per year.

Most of you have seen propane grill tank exchange cabinets at gas stations, convenience stores, and big box stores. Did you know that most cylinder exchange cabinets DO NOT fill the cylinder to its maximum allowable level? A grill cylinder holds approximately 20 pounds of propane. However, most cylinder exchange cabinets only fill them to 15 or 17 pounds. That’s up to 25 percent less than what the cylinder can legally hold.
Next time you exchange your cylinder check the door of the exchange cabinet. By law the vendor has to reveal the actual amount delivered in the cylinder. You might be surprised to find your grill tank is not being “filled.” All cylinders filled at Burkardt’s LP Gas are filled to their maximum allowable level of 20 pounds. Please let us know if you have questions.
Propane is quickly becoming the fuel of choice when it comes to lawn and landscape equipment. Propane is a much less expensive and more environmental option than gas or diesel because it costs less and is cleaner-burning than gasoline or diesel, emitting 60 to 70 percent less smog. Propane engines also require less maintenance and last longer than those operating on gasoline.
The Illinois Propane Gas Association (IPGA) and the Illinois Propane Education & Research Council (IPERC) have approved incentives of $1,500 per mower. (maximum of 3 per year) for new, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) mowers which are designed to use propane gas. Eligible candidates may include, but are not limited to, private licensed landscape contractors, state, federal, municipalities, counties, schools, school districts and universities who are registered to do business in the State of Illinois. For additional details visit www.ilpga.org/ipga-rebate-programs/
The National Propane Gas Association also offers a mower incentive program of up to $1,000 for new mowers and $500 for converted models. These incentives can be combined with state and manufacturer rebate programs for additional savings. For more information about the national Propane Mower Incentive Program, visit www.poweredbypropane.org. Many manufacturers now make dedicated propane engines. So before you buy a lawn mower, check out a propane alternative — you’ll save big in the long run.
It is fascinating to watch the rebirth of the American Oil Industry! After years of declining production, the U.S. is now ramping up for more production than ever.
By September 2013, the production of domestic crude oil is expected to exceed the import of crude oil for the first time since 1995. And, by the end of 2014, daily domestic production will exceed imports by more than two million barrels per day! Imports of crude oil have fallen below seven million barrels per day for the first time since the early 90s.
Production from the Bakken Shale Field in North Dakota, Eagle Ford, and Barnett Shale Fields in Texas, have led the way to increased U.S. oil production. Ten years ago no one would have believed that North Dakota would surpass Alaska in oil production to become the second largest U.S. oil producing state, only behind Texas!
These developments are helping to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. And clean-burning, American-made propane, is a major contributor to reducing this dependency!
