Most of you have seen propane grill tank exchange cabinets at gas stations, convenience stores, and big box stores. Did you know that most cylinder exchange cabinets DO NOT fill the cylinder to its maximum allowable level? A grill cylinder holds approximately 20 pounds of propane. However, most cylinder exchange cabinets only fill them to 15 or 17 pounds. That’s up to 25 percent less than what the cylinder can legally hold.
Next time you exchange your cylinder check the door of the exchange cabinet. By law the vendor has to reveal the actual amount delivered in the cylinder. You might be surprised to find your grill tank is not being “filled.” All cylinders filled at Burkardt’s LP Gas are filled to their maximum allowable level of 20 pounds.
